Tooth decay is the disease known as caries or cavities. Unlike other diseases, however, caries is not life threatening and is highly preventable, though it affects most people to some degree during their lifetime.

Brushing Teeth
Should be preformed at least 2 times per day for 2 minutes. A soft bristle or electric toothbrush is held at a 45 degree angle so the bristles can reach below the gums. Always brush awat form the gums to prevent abrasion.

Flossing
Should be wrapped around the fingers in a c shaped form breaking contact of the teeth and reaching the base of the gum pocket.

Mouth Rinses
Range from killing bacteria, lowering mouth odor to replacing saliva in dry mouth.

Diet
Avoid high sugar drinks and food. Non-diet sodas, sports drinks, high carbohydrate foods( including healthy ones) contain sugars and acids that actually aid bacteria in your mouth to break down tooth structure
